UNIBASE Internet
Installation Guide for Windows 95

Editing and Binding the Slipmenu to Your Connections

In this section, you will edit the Slipmenu.scp file to allow it to automatically log you into UNIBASE. Once you have successfully edited the file, you will then bind each of your connection icons to that file. Once complete, you will be able to connect automatically to the UNIBASE Internet gateway.

Step 1

To begin, you should click Start, Accessories and Dial-up Scripting Tool.

Step 2

On this window, you should see the dial-up connections you have already made. Here, we simply show a single entry called UNIBASE.

You should click the Browse button to list the available files.

Step 3

Click the Slipmenu.scp entry and then click Open.

Step 4

This will move you to the edit screen where you will make the changes. To initiate the edit action, click the Edit button.

Step 5

There are only two changes to be made in this window.

The first is to make the change and enter your slip account. Generally, it will be the same as your e-mail account except it will have an s prepended (i.e. if your e-mail account were jsmith, your slip account would be sjsmith. If you are uncertain as to what your slip account is, please contact the system administrator at UNIBASE.

The second change to be made is to enter your password. It will be the same as the password you use to pick up your mail. Again, if you are uncertain as to what this is, you should contact the system administrator at UNIBASE.

Step 6

In order to link this revised Slipmenu.scp file to the connection entry (in this case the entry is called UNIBASE) you should now click the Apply button.

Each time you create a new connection, you will need to complete the steps above except the actual editing of the file. This latter process need only be done once. On subsequent returns to this procedure, simply identify the Slipmenu.scp file and then click the Apply button.

You should now have made your connection automatic in that you have embedded your account and password into the control file. Now when you select one of the connections, it will pass right through and make the connection, logging you to the UNIBASE Internet Gateway and setting your IP address.
