Installation Guide for Windows 95


Check for Dial-Up Networking


The first step in the installation of Windows 95 Internet capability is to make certain that your computer already has the Dial-Up Networking modules installed. If it is not installed, you should install it now.

Step 1

Click on My Computer. If Dial-Up Networking is installed, you will see the Dial-Up Networking icon. If it is in place, then you need procede no further at this task, and can procede to the next module, Installing the dial-up adaptor.

If you do not see the Dial-Up Networking icon, then you should click on the Control Panel icon and procede to step 2.

Step 2

Once in the Control Panel you will need to select the Add/Remove Programs icon by clicking it.

Step 4

From the Add/Remove Programs window, you will want to select the Windows Setup tab by clicking there.

Note: your Add/Remove Programs window will not look exactly like the one here, but will reflect the programs which have been installed on your computer.

Step 5

In the Add/Remove Program (Windows Setup tab) you will want to first click Communications and then click Details.

Step 6

Carefully examine the check boxes. The check box before Dial-up Networking must be checked.

Once you have checked the appropriate box, you can then click OK and begin working back to the My Computer window.

At this point, Windows95 should procede and install the Dial-Up Networking routines and appropriate shortcuts so the next time you look in the My Computer window you will see the Dial-Ip Networking icon.
